New York Fashion Week may be over but the excitement for the SS17 collections carries on, with trends blooming in await for 2017. It’s the fashion month were all our favourite fashion girls, A-Listers and designers head out to the top runway shows to showcase, or view the collections for SS17 and with that we can have an idea on just what we will be wanting to wear next summer.
Victoria focused a lot around practicality in her SS17 collection, stating that ‘People have to wear the collection.’ Therefore she picked easy to wear cuts, colours and prints a lot for the minimalist woman in mind. White was a colour palette we expected to see in her collection however she contrasted this with bright, almost neon like colours throughout her designs. Another thing we saw that we weren’t expecting to see in her collection was Velvet materials; which according to the street style game and runways this year is set to be the material of the moment.
For the Ralph Lauren show, Ralph himself actually closed a whole street in New York especially for his runway. There’s not many designers that would be able to do this, but Ralph is a man of many talents. Ralph’s collection for SS17 was something completely out of the ordinary for him; almost unrecognisable with a lot of us fashion folk. There were cowboy vibes, crossed with heavy accessorising such as large jewellery, cowboy hats and buckled belts. The whole Native American idea took a different turn and left us with a fresh sense for Ralph Lauren.

Micheal Kors SS17 showed us a bright and colourful collection with some unique styles and prints in which we had never seen before in any of his collections. The pieces are easy to wear and the bright floral designs have that 60s look we always forget we love. Micheal Kors never fails to give us a collection that has all of the femininity we need for summer.

With last week being one of the only weeks we had (and sadly are expected to have) of sun and extreme heat (for England anyway) I’m afraid to say that it may just be about time to start preparing for Autumn and Winter. But the cold months ahead don’t have to create negativity in your head but instead a positive attitude and excitement over ‘WHAT WILL I WEAR’ this Autumn and Winter 16! Well we have put together three key pieces for you men and women that are indecisive over what will be your staple pieces next season.
This Stone Island beanie is of course one of our tops picks and an obvious winter must if you want to keep your head nice and warm when the weather is ice cold. The wool knit is the ideal material for all your accessories and knits this winter. Stone Island are renowned for creating pieces that are wearable every day pieces and also super casual and the grey and black colour scheme mean it will go with just about anything and everything. A subtle logo is nice to have to create an extra something on what could just be a winter beanie.
After that jacket that will last forever, then turn to Belstaff for a jacket that will remain in your wardrobe for years to come, love it and live in it this winter as the black is a colour you really can’t go wrong with. The water repellent material makes it even more of a ‘must have’ jacket, especially in England when rain is just something we have to deal with a lot. This brand is worn by the likes of David Beckham, Oliver Cheshire and Gerald Butler so do not worry you are in safe hands with this brand the celebrities love.
H By Hudson once again bring us the popular ‘Tamper Suede’ Boots and this time in brown. Edge away from a leather boot and go for something you wouldn’t usually go for with the suede style. This is definitely a more casual boot and will perfect your weekend look to the T.
The ‘Cooney’ Ted Baker hat is the brand new accessory piece that we just can’t get enough off. The perfect item for when you feel your outfit is looking a bit simple and you need something to make it stand out. What better colour for Autumn and Winter than Oxblood; it makes us want the cold months already! Complete with the classic Ted Baker miniature cutesy bow for that girly touch.
If there is one item you have to splurge on; an item that will last a lifetime, an item that will forever remain close to your heart, then it’s this Belstaff ‘Boulder Blouson’ aviator style shearling jacket. The traditional aviator has a mix of old and new in it, with the fur collar creating an element of class and of course extra warmth this winter. This is definitely the ‘It’ jacket of 2016!
Calvin Klein gives us the dream backpack this AW16, with tassel and contrasting coloured detailing there’s no denying how much we love this bag. Ditch your usual style of bag and opt for the backpack for extra style, and room as this bag will hold all your ‘much needed’ throw in pieces.
If we thought about Alexa Chung and her life we would say a style setter, go getter and mega babe in terms of having the wardrobe we so utterly crave. It was only a matter of time before she decided to start her own collection, and I think after she released ‘Archive’ for Marks and Spencer people were desperate for her to start her own line.
The collection ‘Alexa Chung’ is set to be released in May 2017 (not too much longer to wait) and it has been spoken about that the first pieces will be ‘ready to wear’ denim, day wear, shoes and jewellery…what more could we ask for? Alexa has stated that she ‘wanted the freedom to sort of make my own world, without someone else’s brand’s brief’s to stick to’ which we can completely understand, and are super excited that the collection will be a line of pieces straight out of Alexa’s wardrobe.
Alexa wants the clothes to be wearable, everyday pieces that you can just throw on and ‘live in’ and one thing we will of course be expecting is the cross between masculinity and femininity, which she has said is going to be included…we wouldn’t expect anything less seeing as that’s a key part of her personal style.
So with 10 months to wait until the release of the collection we can count down the days till we grab ourselves a piece from Alexa Chung.
The year of the controversial campaigns; first Calvin Klein released their new campaign with some slightly provocative image and that caused the internet to start talking about the inappropriateness of their campaign, next was Jack Wills which was criticised for showing models in their underwear which viewers said was not appropriate for their younger audience… and then we have Versaces fall/winter 16 campaign.
The most recent campaign for Versace features several models in different scenes around Chicago, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid being just two of the models. It is in fact the campaign photos with Gigi in them however that has caused the most controversy; she is portraying what looks like a mum and people online were quick to point out the fact Gigi is so young and that this isn’t a realistic image… completely disregarding the positivity of a racially diverse family in the image.
Donatella Versace was quick to defend herself following the criticism and controversy of the images by stating:
“My name is Versace- I don’t know how to do things quietly” pointing out that her campaign images are always bold and spark opinions. She also went on to say “that is just my blood and my family. We make a noise, shout loud”. The images aren’t just about showcasing the clothes but also have a story behind them and the recent campaign is all about the women who have their own business and family and how they still remain ‘fierce’ in every aspect of their lives. Donatella said she wanted to show off her day clothes with this persona of woman in mind.
Donatella has worked with so many supermodels in her time, such as the likes of Naomi Campbell and therefore choosing Hadid and Kloss as two models for her recent campaign would have been an easy decision.
Donatella and Gigi have a close relationship and there’s no denying that they both enjoy working with eachother…Gigi has appeared in the previous Versace campaign as well as on the runway and also if you follow Donatella Versace on Instagram then you will know that her first ever post was in fact with Gigi Hadid.
In recent years the presence of social media, cameras and paparazzi at fashion week has been unmissable. Designers have gone from trying to keep their designs a secret to embracing the publicity and inevitably controlling it so it works in their favour.
However it looks like Michael Kors is changing this and following the foot steps of Anna Wintour by banning anything which may expose his collection before he wants to.
Kors has announced that his Resort Collection due to be debuted on Tuesday has a social media ban, meaning that only the people who attend the fashion show will be able to see the final looks until the collection hits stores in October.
Until then only five images will be released from the press team and this is for editors to use for reviews and on social media.
My first instinct to say that surely this will cause poor representation on social media about the collection, however the opposite is more likely. Banning social media means the public and members of the industry will be eager to see the collection having to wait a few months to see it. Essentially creating a positive anticipation, so when it is finally released it will be fresh for everyone.
“We feel our clients and fans will love getting a sneak peek of the collection as opposed to inundating them with too much imagery too soon.Ultimately, this is all about creating more excitement when the product is available.” – Kors
I’m sure Kors must be positive in his big decision, considering the brand is so prominent on social media and relies on it quite a lot for promotion. It also seems out of character for Kors to do this personally! Unlike many designers he proudly walks down the catwalk at all his shows, flashing his smile and waving, soaking up the applaud and pictures being taken.
We will have to wait until Tuesday for limited pictures and October for the full release, I’m hoping the collection will be amazing purely for the wait we have to endure!

Ted Baker are taking us on a holiday this SS16 and with their light colour schemes and summer prints hitting the stores we definitely know what we are going to be wearing this spring/summer 16. We want you to be fully equipped with the knowledge of what it is you should be wearing in their new collection and how to style some versatile pieces that means you won’t be needing hundreds of summer pieces, but instead a few to mix and match.
1) The striped co-ord:
As soon as these striped co-ords ( Xammie , Jeenie, Petulia and Onissa) arrived in the stores earlier this year everyone had their eyes on them. The fact that they are both in a super flattering fit and can be mixed and matched with different products makes them all the more worth having. Try a simple tee and sneakers with the skirts for a more relaxed look during the day and pair it with it’s matching top and a plain black heel for at night.
Ted’s been all about the stripes this season and the sporty look that comes with it…don’t forget to throw in some unexpected colour with your stripes in the form of a statement necklace or oversized earrings for a fun and quirky look.
2) The Cream Culottes:
The ‘Milee’ Culottes have shown to be a summer must have this year; many celebs have been spotted wearing Culottes already such as Alexa Chung who we all know is a style guru. The great thing about these is that they sit slightly higher at the waist to accentuate the waist and means that they will look amazing with crop tops when the weather is hotter.
3) The Pastel Purse:
Available in three colours on our website, the ‘Harrien’ Purse shows us that pastels are coming back this SS16 and with more candy- floss colours Ted is showing us how to be fun and girly this year; which is what summer’s all about! The new designs are super cute and classy with their bobble fastening.
4) Ted’s Miniature Clutch:
How adorable is this mini striped clutch bag ‘Sammena’. The bright sailor style bag comes with a detachable rose gold chain and makes it extremely wearable throughout the day. Think of an all white outfit and throw in this amazing and adorable bag for that much needed colour and of course stripes because Ted is all about stripes this year!
5) The Crossbody Bag:
This white floral cross-body bag ‘Heleen’ is in Ted’s Hanging Gardens print and takes on a sophisticated floral pattern perfect for summer days when you don’t want to be taking a big bag everywhere. The matching purse inside also makes it an definite must have, because we women love to have somewhere to put our make-up.
When the Ted Baker wrap up coats came through the doors, everybody at Thackeray’s fell in love with them. The variety of colours ranging from camel to black and the effortless look they give off, that is so glamorous and elegant that when you put them on they really do make you feel like a lady.
‘Vasna’ Trench Coat:
The Vasna trench coat in the beautiful dark green shade is lightweight and features a wrap around waist belt. The gold detailing gives you this military feel and would be the ideal coat for autumn, paired with some light denim jeans and boots for during the day!
For something a little bit warmer, then the Lorili coat in camel will do you just fine. The high funnel neck gives it this sophistication and the wrap around belt means that when it does get cold you can wear it snug for extra warmth. The colour is soft and will be the perfect versatile piece to match with jeans during the day, and a fitted dress and heels at night.
We like to think of Calvin Klein as a well known designer that produces such wearable and casual pieces, the ideal necessity really when it comes to everyday wear. He has shown that his products are different from other high end designers as the superb unique detailing offers a spin from your typical casual items.
This Autumn/Winter he has given us even more products to feast our eyes on and wear non stop. We love the denim jacket with the faux fur lining which creates comfort and style all in one, wear this with some super skinny jeans and a CK tee for the ultimate layering genius. We also love the box fit crop top which fits lovely as the oversized feel creates a relaxed look and is available in black and white…you definitely won’t be able to get enough of it!

This fall winter it’s all about warmth with the Armani Jeans collection. Featuring several thick, waterproof coats and jackets to act as your saviours throughout the cold winter weather, you will be in definite need of one of these stylish items. What’s more is that each item is created to perfection to bring out your casual and cool side, such as the Armani Jeans jumper which takes on sports luxe with the jersey sleeve!
Here at Thackeray’s we are dying to get our hands on some of the AW15 collection, even though it is summer… these new items make us wish it was AW already!

Belstaff was founded in 1924 and was relaunched in 2011. It has since become a very ironic Mens brand, and more recently women’s as well. The main focus of Belstaff is to provide it’s customers with rugged, masculine style clothing and boy do we love a good jacket with that added edge.
We see Belstaff as providing us with jackets that become our favourites, the kinda ones you don’t want to take off and have forever.. and it’s no surprise that Belstaff’s heritage was providing the British Armed Forces with jackets through both World Wars. They are definitely a brand with a lot of history and charisma, and they promise not to disappoint, which is why they are the jacket maker of choice for generations of motorcyclists!
