Since retiring from the world of international football, David Beckham has been able to pay more attention to his other life roles — husband, father, and biker. These days he is often spotted zooming around Los Angeles on his extensive motorcycle collection, many of which are custom made. And so when it came to deciding the star of Belstaff’s latest campaign, the global icon seemed like an obvious candidate.
The partnership was revealed at the new London flagship Belstaff store last week with the launch event bringing Bond Street to a standstill thanks to an impressive parade of motorcyclists. Dressed in luxury leathers, David Beckham posed alongside models and was in his element among the throngs of other bikers.
Belstaff is steeped in British heritage and was first founded in 1924 and was initially only worn by bikers and aviators. Impressive technical knowledge has allowed the team to develop high performance, durable fabrics which have now made jackets staples among not only bikers, but also the fashion circles.
The newest campaign images for the 2014 collection are yet to be unveiled, but we do know that shots were inspired by the late, great Belstaff aficionado Steve McQueen. Beckham explained; “The reasons I am excited about becoming part of this brand are A) because it is such an historical, British brand and B) because Steve McQueen was one of the first people to be part of Belstaff and I’m a he fan of his. Just to be part of this, as a biker, is great: after so many years of playing football I now spend a lot of time riding bikes. And to have clothes like that is great.”
